This case study created as part of my Google UX Certification program. My responsibilities included user research, concept ideation, designing user flows, visual design, prototyping, user testing, aligning key stakeholders on product goals, and incorporating user feedback into design iterations.
The Everything is A-Bouquet app simplified the order and selection of flower arrangements for any occasion. The endless scrolling could have dulled the experience of buying flowers for a special occasion. This app aimed to assist busy working adults who did not have the time to choose a floral gift.
Busy adults don't want to be burdened with numerous choices. They sought simplicity and efficiency when selecting gifts like flower arrangements.
Platforms with limited customizing capabilities for creating bouquets tailored to the recipient posed an additional challenge. Many users desired the flexibility to add a personal touch and customize their floral gifts according to the recipient's preferences and occasion.
Managing the logistics of different delivery locations and ensuring seamless coordination between various local florists to maintain the app's commitment to dependable and timely delivery services.
Matthew is a hardworking husband who needs a quick and simple flower arrangement app because he wants to send flowers to his wife for their anniversary.
Stars were used to mark the elements of each sketch that would be used in the initial digital wireframes.
I completed two stages of usability testing. The results of the initial usability study helped steer the design process from wireframes to mockups. Considering the user in mind, I made sure to make the app design reflect the user feedback received from the research conducted. Using a high-fidelity prototype, I conducted a second usability study. It indicated areas of the mockups that needed improvement. A system usability scale was provided at the end of each usability study.
According to the usability research, users appreciated the checkboxes’ position but sought a better approach to highlight their stored information.
You can explore the low-fidelity prototype of my initial iteration of Everything is A-Bouquet. This prototype was employed during the usability test to identify potential weak points and areas for improvement before developing the final mockup. Using the low-fidelity approach, I gathered valuable insights from users and made necessary adjustments to enhance the user experience and refine the final product.
- A quote from a study participant
The final high-fidelity prototype adjusted to accurately mirror the user flow for placing floral orders. The Everything is A-Bouquet app streamlined the selection process and presented curated options, making it easier for users to find the perfect floral gift for any occasion without feeling overwhelmed by an abundance of choices. It satisfied user demands for a more efficient search and information storage for future recurring floral orders.
Interviews were conducted to determine what works bests for users. I put together a competitive audit involving both direct and indirect competitors. The key user demographic identified through research was busy working adults who did not have time to sort through the mountains of bouquets offered by most apps. The user group validated the initial expectations of floral arrangement buyers and also revealed that users want a dependable method of saving flower preferences and recurring dates to shorten the time ordering future floral arrangements.
Study participants received the app well. Participants were willing to share the app with others, according to the system usability scale criteria obtained at the end of the study. I learned what I think is a good idea is within my own bias and may not encapsulate what all users want or need in a design. With the process of usability research, I was able to make better improvements to match user needs for this app.
Next steps is to create an alternative search method for people with motor barriers because clicking the filtering checkboxes may be challenging.
