I was chosen as the sole UX/UI designer as part of the Hiring Our Heroes Spouse fellowship and in charge of the website redesign for an automated HR start-up company. My responsibilities included user research, concept ideation, designing user flows, visual design, prototyping, user testing, aligning key stakeholders on product goals, and incorporating user feedback into design iterations.
The purpose of this project was to redesign an existing website to make it fully responsive, ensuring optimal user experience across different devices and screen sizes. The goal was to improve the website's usability, accessibility, and visual appeal, ultimately enhancing its effectiveness in achieving its objectives.
Ensuring the content remained readable, relevant, and visually appealing across various devices required restructuring or reformatting the content. Balancing the need for concise information while maintaining its comprehensiveness was tricky.
Adapting the design elements, typography, and graphical assets to various screen sizes and aspect ratios while maintaining a cohesive visual identity required careful consideration and testing.
Ensuring accessibility for users with disabilities added a layer of complexity. Meeting accessibility guidelines and standards, such as WCAG 2.1, required specific design considerations and implementation techniques, such as providing alternative text for images, keyboard accessibility, and color contrast ratios.
Startup's UX challenges included limited resources that required creative prioritization and balancing a user-centered approach. Rapid iteration and time constraints were common in fast-paced startup environments, necessitating adaptability while maintaining a seamless user experience.
The plan for the redesign entailed a meticulous review of previous beta test footage, with a careful notation of comments regarding enhancements to the current website design. I identified the overarching issue of nonresponsiveness and subsequently improved the design to ensure a simpler and more enjoyable user experience. Notably, I made detailed observations of areas that required improvement, particularly addressing concerns related to compressed image sections.
The responsive website redesign project aimed to transform the existing website into a modern, user-friendly, and visually appealing online platform. By implementing a responsive design, enhancing usability, optimizing performance, and ensuring accessibility, the redesigned website was intended to provide an enhanced user experience across various devices. The successful execution of this project expected to contribute to achieving the organization's goals, increasing user engagement, and establishing a strong online presence.
